Celebrating Military Moms this Mothers Day

This flag was carried on numerous combat
missions across Iraq and Afghanistan
Our oldest son has served in the U.S. Army for the past 13 years. He’s a West Point grad and has traveled the world, and has been deployed to some pretty scary places.

One of the challenges of being a military mom is when your family is separated. It’s not just the missing of birthdays, holidays, graduations, weddings or funerals. When conflicts arise, our military is sent to some of the most perilous places in the world. When that happens it can fill you with worries.

And then there are MOMS who serve in the military. I can’t imagine how a family feels when their mom is deployed.

Technology has done so much to close the physical distances. Fifteen years ago, there was no FaceTime or WhatsApp, and Skype had just launched. So most families would wait for letters and phone calls. Now, in the blink of an eye, it's possible to see your family’s faces and hear their voices from far away.

An opportunity to enjoy a tech shopping experience

You can make Mother’s Day super special for the military mom in your life. Just nominate her to one to win a $1000 shopping experiences at her local Verizon store. It’s easy to do. Just visit https://militarymoms.us/ and enter. It will be an awesome chance for her to update the tech used to stay in touch. And if you are a military mom, you can nominate yourself!

Fifteen moms will be chosen. There are lots of tech gadgets and fun treats for her to choose from. To get an idea of what’s available, I popped in to my local store and saw a ton of tech gadgets like Ring doorbells, Apple TV, Nest and Canary cameras, Google home hubs, Bluetooth speakers like the UE Boom, and of course, there all sorts of Androids and iPhones and all of the accessories to go with them.

All military moms are created equally. So if you know a deserving military mom who is on active duty; or the spouse of a service person; or mother or grandmother, of a service person (active, retired, or veteran or reserves); it would be awesome if you would take a moment to nominate her.

And there’s no requirement to be a Verizon customer. The only requirement is being in the U.S. since the stores are here. It's all about rewarding military moms for their courage, support, and sacrifices.

Supporting our military

Verizon supports the U.S. military in other ways, too. So this Mothers Day opportunity isn’t just a promotional gig. It’s just one of many ways they support our servicemen and women and their families. like their special offers for military families.

Through researching it, I found out:
  • They’re a top 10 military employer by Military Times
  • 11,000 Veterans employed at Verizon
  • 85 percent military jobs translate to Verizon civilian jobs
  • 2018’s #1 Military Friendly company for its total commitment to military employees, customers, and suppliers
  • 2018’s #1 Military Friendly Spouse Employers for its commitment to creating opportunities for the spouses of those who serve
  • 2018”s #6 Best for Vets Employer by Military Times, up 14 notches from 2017.
It’s unusual for me to write about a specific product or service, but when I learned about the VZMilitaryMoms promotion by Verizon, I let them know I would be honored to join their effort.

Thanks for reading, and I hope you’ll take a moment to nominate the military mom in your life. It's a great way to thank her for her service. And she could be the surprised and happy winner of an amazing tech shopping spree.

When I was in high school and college, some of my classmates went to Vietnam and never came back. You may not agree with the politics or support a war, but I've learned that you should always support our troops. Men or women, they are the guardians of freedom, the best of the best.

    1. Thanks so much for your reply and I relate to your comment on almost all levels except the guys I knew guys who had been drafted, came back. The problem was, they came back physically but they were never the same. I never had a clear idea of what they lived through, and back then it wasn't really talked about because of the unpopularity of the conflict. Thanks again for your comment.

  2. I love your line "all military moms are created equally." Verizon has their work cut out for them because, really, I think all military moms are deserving. Thanks for supporting our troops Verizon.

    1. Jennifer, thanks so much for reading and leaving a comment. It's funny because a lot of people qualify but since they're spouses of retired, or moms of kids who have left service, it's easy to forget about them. No doubt they all have had to endure hardships. Big ((HUGS)) and thank you again!
